Memories, Music, and Metaphors

My deep love and appreciation for music can no way be measured by any standard. My love that falls under the category of "romantic", on the other hand, can be done so as easy as one, two, three– and I mean that quite literally, as it has recently come to my attention that I've told only three people that I loved them.

So there's Tina, whom I met back in college. Her musical equivalent would most definitely be Hanson. Yes, they're the ones who sang "Mmmbop". See, I thought Hanson was awesome. Despite all the criticism, I absolutely loved them. I defended them. But I was young and well, not very smart. I mean, if you asked me about them today, I'd be like, "What the fuck was I thinking." But you still hear some of their songs on the radio every now and then, and you can't help but smile– before changing the station.

Then there's Camille. Camille is, oh yes, wait for it... The Eraserheads. That by itself should be enough; but let me expound just a bit. Some call them The Beatles of the Philippines. Others, the greatest Filipino band in history. Be that as it may, but my relationship with the E-Heads is a lot more personal. Many of you don't know this, but Ultraelectromagneticpop! is the first audio cassette I ever bought. I had each one of their albums, and could listen to them days on end. And even though THE band has all but disappeared, they're still incredibly special.
