Badges

Temporary badges were issued back at Stream in the event that you forgot your permanent one. They're marked with a huge blue "T" right in the middle. I remember wearing one once; and Lyra, radiating with her perfume and usual cleverness, remarked: "T... is for Topak."

I'm assigned a visitor's badge now, with an equally prominent red "V" stamped at the front. Entering the staff room, I imagined Lyra take a break from her shift-long battle with Microsoft Excel, only to smirk and comment: "V... is for Vipolar."
